Life, Sex, and More Sex is definitely a title that will attract readers and raise questions in any mind. That is just what the authors intended it to do.
Sisters and co-authors Mirranda Guerin-Williams and Ursula Inga Kindred spent the day signing their book Sister Gumbo: Life, Sex and More Sex, in the Smith-Brown Memorial Union, February 6.
Williams, 39, and, Kindred 42 are Baton Rouge natives residing outside Fort Worth, Texas. Together they have created a graceful picture of the everyday black woman.
“You are raised that you don’t tell everybody everything, but we began to realize, as we talked to each other that all women have virtually the same issues,” Williams said.
The book showcases women of all ages telling the true story of individual’s lives and the trials and tribulations they have gone through.
“The women talked to us ‘cause they know we don’t run our mouths, and of course we changed their names,” Kindred said smiling.
Though each story had it similarities and differences one of the issues that repeatedly came up in the book was that of interracial dating.
“Black women have issues with interracial dating, the number of black men are very small and for black women there is a shortage of young black men, especially those who are educated with direction,” said Williams.
The book acts as an autobiography of the black female, giving the readers a trip into their joys, pains and life lessons.
“‘I’m not saying women should lower their expectations. I am just saying that love and marriage is only what you make it. Sometimes you have to give a little more than you get,’” said Sadie one of the books featured women.
