Well it is that time of year again. It’s the time for finals, graduation and of course, Springfest. Springfest, time for people to relax right before finals, and for newly probated Greeks to sport their letters.
The time for the old SGA administration to give one last event before the new one moves in, and unfortunately the time for some students to complain about what our school has to offer.
Springfest, a concert/picnic and now a four day event imitating an almost Bayou Classic/Homecoming type flavor.
Still it has come to my attention that our little gathering of students here at Southern University is gradually growing smaller and smaller.
I hear every year that students are traveling to Grambling State University or just not coming because they think it’s lame, or a waste of time.
Ok, I admit that some the acts and activities in the past surrounding Springfest have been out there, but lets give SGA a break.
You can’t blame them when a girl gets on stage and starts stripping during a “Monkey on a Stick” contest or about the size of the crawfish that the cafeteria serves out.
There is only so much that the SGA can control and more importantly, for those complaining about the type of guests and artists we have at Springfest, there is only so much SGA can afford.
After football season, i.e. Homecoming, and Bayou Classic activities not to mention, each classes’ specified week the SGA has used most of its funds.
With this understanding, it boggles me as to why students can complain about the best our money can afford and then scream about the student fees they have to pay at the beginning of the semester.
Sure, this weekend is also Grambling’s Springfest and sure they may have Ludacris way up there in the country but they had to sacrifice something for that.
Many of us have not seen Grambling’s homecoming or know what their classes don’t do on that campus that we do here at this great institution.
So until you realize if the grass is truly greener on the other side stop complaining, participate and make Springfest what you want it to be.
