Springfest 2002 will take place Saturday, April 27, but Springfest events will be taking place over four days. This year the Student Government Association has planned a three-day event schedule to go along with the annual concert and picnic.
Due to the current renovation of the F.G. Clark Activity, all activities excluding Saturday’s picnic will be held in Seymour Gymnasium.
The festivities begin Wednesday, April 24 with a variety show at 7:30 p.m.
According to the Office of Student Programs, the variety show will highlight individual talents of students from Southern University and special guests from Xavier University in New Orleans. This event is free with student ID required at the door.
Thursday, April 25, the Springfest comedy show at 7:30 p.m. will feature host Lav Luv. Comedians Dominique and Lavell Crawford complete the show’s line up. The event is free with student ID required at the door.
The only event open to the public is Friday, April 26. The Springfest Greek show starts at 7:30 p.m. and features performances from the Gold N’ Bluez dance team.
All active members of the Southern University Pan Hellenic Council will be participating in the Greek show.
The main event begins Saturday at noon with crawfish at noon. Starting at 2 p.m., long picnic items will be served including barbecue chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream and drinks. The annual event will take place on lawn of Mayberry Cafeteria.
On stage for Springfest will be a line up of local and national artists. The entertainment begins with the Southern University Look Dancers at 12:45 p.m., followed by the Ying Yang Twinz and Lil’, John and the Eastside Boys at 1:30 p.m.
At 2 p.m. there will be a break from musical talents with a Step Show and a DJ Battle. Pretty Willie will take stage at 2:30 p.m. followed B.G. at 3:30 p.m.
Also scheduled, the Vibe Ride College Tour, sponsored by Vibe Magazine, will be present Saturday.
The tour consists of three tents, with samples, games and other activities. Music provided by DJ, a DJ battle, and special live performances are a part of the interactive mobile tour.
The Springfest stage show will conclude at 5 p.m. with a special guest from the Vibe tour ending the festivities. Other artists planned to perform on Saturday are Cherokee and Ce-Lo.
