Brandy has long been known as a Pop/R&B princess with TV series (Moesha, Thea) made for TV movies (Cinderella, Double Platinum) and appearances on the big screen (I Still Know What You Did Last Summer) under her belt. She even snatched up a serious contract with makeup mogul Cover Girl, singing “easy and breezy” melodies of for commercial audiences.
Recently, the songstress has shocked both her fans and critics with an update of her new image and social life. She announced recently that she was married and that a new addition is definitely on the way. She is even having a baby shower, which her fans can win a “pass” to via radio call-ins.
Released last month, “Full Moon” is yet another attempt of Brandy to get away from her previous “bubble gum, kiddie” image. The mother to be is all grown up and wants everyone to know it. With a sleek cover photo of Brandy no longer donning braids, the album showcases the artists ability to perform a variety of songs. Not just concentrating strictly on vocals or up-tempo beats, the album hosts a steady flow of both.
The radio friendly first release, “What About Us” introduced the masses to the new world of “B-Rocka”, a new Brandy alias.
With lines such as “I don’t need this bull–I won’t put up with it,” it is easy to see that this is not your run-of-the mill Brandy product. Other hard-hitting songs on the album include “It’s Not Worth It.” She also lends her voice to seduction on the sultry “When You Touch Me.” Do not be alarmed, “rose-colored glasses” fans, Brandy still has some “dreamy-eyed” songs on the album. The title track, “Full Moon” has been at the number one spot on BET’s video “countdown” show, 106 & Park for several weeks. “He Is,” one of the songs dedicated to her new husband/producer is also a stand-out ballad on “Full Moon.”
To explain her current change, the artists tells all on her website, www.foreverbrandy.com,
“I’ve come full circle,” she says, “made a 360 degree change in my life and, rediscovered my love for music and hey, crazy things happen during a ‘FULL MOON.’”
