As another school year comes to an end, I sit and reflect on what has happened in SU athletics.
First off I would like to say congratulations to the football team for never giving up. People talked about the team; said our reign as king over the SWAC was over. But we showed the SWAC that Jaguars never give up.
Now on to track and field, I expected a realistic three championship titles out of them and so far I have gotten one and the men seem to be on their way to another. So I guess 2 out of 3 isn’t too bad.
Now for basketball … what can I say? I was a little disappointed in the men, but I know that it can only get better from here.
Those women on the other hand … they made my job so much easier. And the great thing about this team is I do not have to hope that they do well next season, I know that under the leadership of Sandy Pugh they will do well next season.
The tennis team has even given me the gift of a SWAC championship title.
My favorite team on campus on campus (they are tied with the women’s B-ball team) would have to be the Jaguar baseball team. They are the most charming men on campus. They are friendly, easy to talk to and they WIN. What more can a girl ask for?
And now for those cheerleaders. Do you know that some people are never satisfied? I slaved over an article about this great and wonderful group of very talented athletes and do you know what one of them asked me? Why weren’t they on the front page? I heard everything from the SGA elections weren’t important, the women’s basketball team got a whole special edition and “we couldn’t even get the front page?”
At this time I would like to give thanks to those who deserve thanks and so much more. But since the people will not pay me, this is all I can afford.
Thank you to Derick Sean Hackett (You like that huh, Mr. Hackett?). Without you the DIGEST would not be the respected publication that it is today.
Thank you Gabrielle Alexis Maple. I can’t write news to save my soul and with you here I don’t have to try.
To Gary Holloway, thank you for keeping it real with the world. If you handle your business you will go far in the field of journalism. You are a great writer, I know this, everyone else knows this, we hope you know this.
To A.J. for making me think, my mother think, for making everyone who read your words think. To my girl Alicia Square, you held it down for me. Next year we take it even farther.
Last but certainly not least, I would like to thank Brandi Jade Thomas, Editor-in-Chief of the award winning Southern DIGEST
BJ, girl you know you are IT. You are going to go far, I only wish that I am able to follow in your footsteps. You are one of the reasons that I am still here. I don’t like to let friends down and I do consider you a great and wonderful friend. Thank you for letting me be crazy with you. Gab and I will hold it down for you next year, we promise to make sure that all your hard work was not in vain.
That’s it, I’m out.
