Southern University Assistant Director of Student Media Christopher Jones said the 2005 yearbook will be one of the best ever released at Southern. But it is not for everyone.
“It’s for students who were full time during the fall of 2004 and the spring of 2005,” Jones said. “We also require that you either have a valid Southern University I.D. or you can have your driver’s license.”
Students have a chance to pick up the 2005 yearbook Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in The Jaguar Yearbook Office, located in Suite 1062 in T.H. Harris Hall. Jones said yearbooks would be mailed out to graduating seniors who filled out a mailing form during the last academic school year.
“Without giving the highlight of the yearbook away, I think it will provide something that has never been done in the Southern University yearbook up until this point,” Jones said. “And I think it also will provide an accurate depiction of life as a Southern University student.”
According to Jones, the “highlight” is something that students may not notice initially.
“It is something you probably will see in the yearbook from here on out,” he said. “It’s a very subtle difference but it’s something you’re going to see throughout the entire book.”
Jones said the yearbook would not have been possible without the hardworking staff.
“The sign that you have a great university or your going to have a good yearbook is the staff’s dedication,” Jones said.
“This staff was really dedicated and focused on making this one of the best yearbooks ever.
“We’ve been steadily progressing from the 2003 book to the 2004 book with the special features. For this book, they wanted to make it one of the best ever.”
Managing Editor Anthony Monroe said students should make time in their schedules to get their books.
“As of now, I think this will be the best yearbook we’ve ever had,” Monroe said. “They (students) can look forward to us only improving and everybody will like the book.”
Editor in chief Anthony Moore, who was the photo editor for the yearbook, was very instrumental its quality, Jones said.
Due to Hurricane Katrina, Moore, a military reservist, left recently to assist in relief efforts.
“Our prayers are with him and hopefully so is the universities,” Jones said.
