Families throughout the Gulf Coast are still picking up the pieces and rebuilding their lives after Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita wreaked havoc.
In Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi and Texas more than 35,000 people are still seeking assistance from the Red Cross in 220 shelters.
To date $876 million Red Cross contributions has been used for financial assistance, housing and immediate disaster relief.
As of Sept. 25 $946.6 million was donated to the Red Cross in gifts and pledges. Local chapters are still looking for volunteers and financial assistance.
The Red Cross estimates relief efforts will exceed $2 billion.
