The athletic department of Southern University has unveiled a new Web site. The site, www.GoJagsSports.com, made its World Wide Web debut on Sept.6, and according to SU Director of Sports Information Kevin Manns, it is the top source for alumni, fans, media and recruiters to get information on Southern’s 18 Division-I sports.
“This is a good Web site,” Manns said. “It’s the main information tool outside of my mouth and the athletic director’s to disseminate information.”
GoJagSports.com is the second athletic Web site Southern has constructed in three years. Manns said he started building the site after the athletic department discontinued their previous site, www.GoJags.net.
So far, a few Southern students have checked out the Web site.
“It’s a pretty good website,” said Tate Joshua, a freshman nursing major from Moreauville. “It has stats, tickets for the game and information about what past players are doing now.”
According to Manns, www.GoJagSports.com is the most advanced Web site Southern’s athletic department has ever had. Unlike the athletic department’s previous Web site, the current one includes schedules, rosters, complete individual player biographies and current athletic news.
“We had to do a lot of work to get the Web site going, but I knew we had to get it done,” Manns said.
The site also has a 12-month events calendar, a real-time scoreboard, ticket information, quick facts and daily updates.
CSTV Networks Inc., a digital sports media company, assisted the athletic department with the initial construction of the site.
“A Web site of this caliber is invaluable in this day and age,” said Chris Nagle, CSTV corporate communications manager. “It would reflect poorly if the athletic department did not have a Web site.”
