Before diehard fans line up along parade routes and the Jaguars face off with the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Saturday night, Southern University celebrated a weeklong schedule of Homecoming activities.
The week kicked off Oct. 3 with an ecumenical service in the Cotillion Ballroom.
This year’s homecoming theme is “Honoring the Past, Charting the Future.” Not only did the Student Government Association sponsored annual favorites such as the talent show, comedy show and the homecoming concert, this year they hosted a Blue and Gold Retro Party. Money raised through this event was donated to the United Way.
Under the starry sky and bright lights of A.W. Mumford Stadium, former Southern University SGA President and Universal/Motown recording artist, David Banner, headlined the homecoming concert.
Trillville, Slim Thug, Bobby Valentino and local artist Hall of Fame also entertained students in the outdoor evening event.
Sororities and fraternities will compete for bragging rights in the Pan Hellenic Council Greek Show Friday at 7:30 in Seymour Gym. Tickets are $5 and open to the public.
Friday’s activities will end with the Gala on the Bluff at the Sheraton Baton Rouge Convention Center.
Alumni and supporters will dance the night away to the sounds of R&B funk group, The SOS Band. For tickets call (225) 771-5640.
