The Southern University Police Department has issued a warrant for the arrest of a former University Bookstore employee who allegedly stole over $13,000.
According to an affidavit by Det. Byron Cage, SUPD charged Alberic V. Illidge Jr., of Apt. 142, 1819 N. Marque Ann Drive with felony theft and embezzlement.
The warrant says while Illidge was an employee at the bookstore, he failed to make bank deposits in the amount of $13,646.35.
“As of right now, the warrant has not been served,” said SUPD Chief Dale Flowers. “Currently, we are attempting to apprehend Mr. Illidge.”
The affidavit said bookstore manager Maria Johnson reported that from July 11 to July 29, 2005, Illidge took bank deposits totaling $11,564.67 and took money from the bookstore’s safe in the amount of $2,081.68.
Johnson said Illidge had not worked at the bookstore since July and was not a student at Southern.
“I don’t know what he was doing with the money,” Johnson said. “He just wasn’t making deposits at the bank.
According to Louisiana Revised Statute 14:67 B(1), if Illidge is found guilty, he could face a prison sentence up to 10 years, along with as much as a $3,000 fine.
