Coined the “Realist Motivational Speaker of the 21st Century,” Fox Rich will be on hand at Southern University on Nov. 16 as part of the university’s motivational speakers series, sponsored in part by the Association for Women Students.
Fox, the co- executive producer and host of her self-titled show, will speak at 11 a.m. in the Cotillion Ballroom at the Smith-Brown Memorial Union.
Before she became an empowerment speaker, Rich owned a clothing store with husband, Glen Rich.
Faced with losing financial backing, the couple robbed a bank and she spent 12 years in jail after being convicted for her role.
AWS Public Relations Officer Klevelandria Whitson said Rich’s experiences should be shared.
“I think it is a good opportunity for her to come,” Whitson said. “She is so nice and down to earth. Plus, the things she has gone through make an (good) impression of youth.
While imprisoned, Rich gave energizing empowerment speeches to inmates. Determined to get her life on track, Rich decided to enroll at the University of Louisiana at Monroe to pursue a master’s degree in mass communication, in pursuit of her dream to one day be on television.
Today, Rich is a motivational speaker and recording artist. The Shreveport native also heads the Fox Rich Power Party Tour and works with inmates at the Louisiana State Penitentiary.
Her distinctive ‘in your face’ approach pooled with soul music makes her one of the most sought after speakers by colleges and universities.
Allison Gay, AWS president said she is looking forward to see Rich after witnessing the speaker’s dynamic presentation last year.
“I’m excited that she’s coming back,” Gay said. “The turnout from last year was really good. I’m looking forward to seeing what she has to say differently from the message she conveyed last year.”
