Southern’s two-week early registration period concludes today for continuing students. Every year the Registrar’s Office makes strides to improve registration, yet some students still find difficulties.
“More courses need to be added and registration should be extended,” said Ranada Hansberry. “Because when the time came for me to register, all the classes were full because students were allowed to register out of sequence.”
Dee J. Frank, assistant registrar, said for the most part, the registration process has been efficient since it started Oct. 31.
“Everything has been very smooth,” Frank said. “We haven’t had any problems and everyone has done what they were supposed to do and there were no complaints.”
Zakiya Ali, a sophomore mass communication major from Crowley, said she has always preregistered without problems.
“Registration was really fast and easy,” Ali said. “Everything went smoothly.”
Current students are required to preregister using JagNet, Southern’s electronic registration system or JagCall, Southern’s automated registration system. If continuing students do not preregister, they will be charged a $30 fee.
Students displaced by the hurricanes are still eligible for preregistration on Southern’s Web site, www.subr.edu. However, students who previously attended Southern-New Orleans should go to Lottie Anthony Hall to visit with advisors to discuss intentions to enroll in the spring.
Students have from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. today to complete online preregistration or they can call JagCall at (225) 771-5889.
