High fashion and glamour willonce again grace Southern University when it hosts the 47th annual EbonyFashion Fair traveling fashion show.
The show will be held on Sunday,Feb. 27, in the F. G. Clark Activity Center, and is being sponsored by theGamma Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
This year’s theme is “Living ItUp.” It will feature thirteenmodels showcasing fashions by world-renowned designers such as Bob Mackie, BillLass, Givenche and Yves Saint Laurent.
“Expect to see beautifulfashions, and the enjoyment of being in a setting similar to a Broadwayproduction,” said Publicity Chairperson, Edna G. Stewart.
Stewart said that the show’scoordinators have been planning a more upbeat and impressive atmosphere forthis year’s show in hopes of it being more like a broadway production that willinclude trendy music and spectacular light shows.
Tickets for the event are $21for regular seating and $26 for reserved seating.
Ticket prices also includeone-year subscriptions to Ebony or Jet Magazines for the purchasers. Allproceeds from the show will be used to benefit the sorority’s scholarshipprogram and charitable community projects.
The event chairpersons are alsoencouraging SU student involvement as well.
“We want students involved notonly for the fashions, but because a lot of young people are trying to get intofashion design,” Stewart said. “Wewant them to see the makings of the outside world and participate in an upscalefashion show.”
Marian Griffin, committeechairperson for the event, feels confident that there will be a large turnoutthis year.
“Roughly two thousand peopleattend yearly,” Griffin said.
The fashion show has sustained areputation of being the largest traveling showcase that continues to lead theway in showcasing high fashion to black America.
