The Southern University men’s andwomen’s basketball teams lost to Alcorn State University on Saturday. TheJaguar women lost 64-54, and the men fell 69-67. The loss was both teams’ thirdconsecutive road game loss.
Junior guard Rolanda Monroe had agame high 19 points. The Lady Braves had three players to score in doubledigits — guard LaToya Johnson scored 14 points, center Candace Roberts andforward Tnonealyer Powers both had 10. The Jaguar women (5-4, 8-10) led32-26 at the half.
The women’s team was picked totake first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference preseason polls. They are now in fifth place in the conference; Alcorn State is in firstplace.
Southern guard Chris Alexanderlead the Jaguars with 17 points, two assists and three steals while TrayveanScott, also a guard, added 11.
