The Southern University men’s andwomen’s basketball teams received new uniforms.
The old uniforms were donated toSouthern University at New Orleans.
“We gave the old gold uniforms toSUNO because they didn’t have any,” said men’s head coach Michael Grant.
SUNO unveiled their new look inthe Nov. 12 game.
The uniforms are made of a spandexand dry fit material. The choice for materials is contributed to the look of iton the court.
“Spandex and dry fit materialalways look nice even when it’s wet,” Grant said. “That way even when theguys sweat you really can’t tell because of the material.”
The women’s basketball team’s homeuniforms are white.
According to Danny Evans, assistant coach for the women, the team was in need of new uniforms and nowthat they are here, the players love them.
“We’ve had the old ones for a fewyears,” Evans said. “But now we use the new set for all home games and weuse the blue with the gold trim that we’ve had for the past two years for awaygames.”
Though the coaches and playersfrom both teams are thrilled about the uniforms, fans said they saw no big dealor difference, besides the color.
“The uniforms don’t stand out,”said LaNoah Lomax a senior majoring in electrical engineering.
Royce Enclarve, a junior, gave hissuggestion on how he thinks the uniforms would look more appealing.
“They look nice, but I think thatthey should get all black uniforms with blue letters with a gold trim becauseblack looks intimidating.”
Last season the 6th Man clubbought the blue set for the men’s basketball team. This year, the RussellAthletics Conference donated a gold set. Next season’s uniforms will bewhite and also donated by Russell according to Grant.
