SouthernUniversity and Louisiana State University will hold the annual Black FamilyReunion on Saturday, Feb. 19 from noon to 6 p.m. on the LSU parade grounds.
The reunionbegan under the Student Government Association administration of Avery Wilson,2001-2002 SGA president.
It wasoriginally held on the campus of LSU in an effort to unify black students onboth campuses.
“LSU plays anintricate role in the planning and development of the Black Family Reunion inconjunction with the events that they plan all month to celebrate Black HistoryMonth,” said Desherick Williams, SGA liaison to LSU.
Representativesfrom both universities will serve as hosts for the event.
LSUrepresentative Ijeoma Udenkwo plans to try to make the event as fun aspossible.
“I’m just goingto go up there and do me,” she said. “It should be fun.”
The day willconsist of activities including inflatable rock climbing, bungee run,volleyball, football and inflatable boxing.
Free barbequewill be provided. There will also be an organizational cook-off.
Another eventstudents can expect is a talent show featuring SU and LSU students.
Participants whoplace in the event will receive gift certificates while the first place winnerwill be granted free studio time, which can be used towards recording a demotape.
“I just want allthe students to enjoy themselves and look forward to more collaborative eventsbetween the universities,” Williams said.
There will be abus available to transport students from Southern to the LSU parade grounds.
Pick-up will bein front of J.S. Jones Hall beginning at 11:45 a.m. and will continue everythirty minutes.
