On Thursday April 28, the ArmyReserve Officers’ Training Corps, awarded cadets of the Jaguar Battalion thathave excelled on and off campus.
“It’s an award ceremony to honorthe cadets for excellence in fitness, classroom participation andachievements,” said Lt. Colonel McClinton, Professor of Military Science.
McClinton, was also the guestspeaker for the ceremony, he spoke to the cadets about being excelling in allthey do.
“Excellence is not a perception,it’s a prevailing attitude,” said McClinton as he quoted Colin Powell.
“We try to instill that intotheir daily lives to always excel in all that they do so when there given aleadership role, they’re strive for excellence and not accept anythinglower.”
Although all of the candidatesof the ROTC were not honored many were on hand to support their fellow peers.
“It’s good cause it helps unitcohesion. Everyone feels important, and most of the tasks that were perform areconsider duties but it also helps individuals when they complete their duties,”said Ron Reid, a junior business major from Charlotte, N.C.
On hand to present some of theawards were members of the American Veterans of World War II,
The national Society of the Sonsof the American Revolution Award, Military Order of World Wars Award, Assoc. ofthe US Army, Knights of Columbus, and Reserve Officers Assoc.
“Generally the banquet is heldto credit good and bad events, it’s to give credit to individuals that wereable to handle tasks thrown at them throughout the year,” said JenniferJohnson, a senior majoring in political science from Opelousas.
