Phoenix (AP) — Former SouthernUniversity standout Rickey Weeks was among three top prospects the MilwaukeeBrewers sent to the minor leagues Monday, March 31.
Also optioned was outfielderCorey Hart, who went with Weeks to Triple-A Nashville. The Brewers alsoreturned first baseman Prince Fielder to their minor league camp.
The trio had impressiveperformances offensively this spring but not on defense: Weeks, a secondbaseman had four errors, Fielder three and Hart one.
Hart’s hustle turned some heads.
“Corey Hart’s opened up eyesthis spring,” General Manager Doug Melvin said. “Probably of all the youngplayers, he’s the one guy who has opened up eyes.”
With Carlos Lee in left andGeoff Jenkins in right, however, there was no room on the roster for Hart. ButMelvin said he would have no hesitation playing Hart in either spot should oneof his corner outfielders get hurt.
