Personally, Ibelieve in pressuring the issues of black civil rights, but as we continue topressure these issues, we as black people should empower ourselves as a whole.
On my rightarm there is a tattoo of a black power fist. This fist symbolizes my personalbelief in black power. However, just because I believe in black power, thatdoes not mean that I am a racist. I am just trying to face the facts that I’mblack and I want to support the blacks.
In thispresent century, Black America is in vital need of mental fortification.Physically we are free, but mentally we still have chains on our brain.Continuously, we fight amongst ourselves; slander each other’s name and killoff one another; this lessens the total of our value.
Instead ofusing our energy negatively against each other, we should try to empower oneanother. We need each other to survive because as a unit, we are a powerfulforce.
Americacontinuously tries to keep us in bondage. The media and schools ignore the history of our people.
In the 18thcentury there was an African slave by the name of Ignatius Sancho who become afamous composer and author. We need to know about him. Also, we need to know about WilliamWells Brown, who is considered to be the first black to publish a novel,Narrative of William W. Brown.
We only knowthe basis of what is given to us about our history. Most of this history is givento us one month out of the year, yet there is a more in-depth knowledge thanwhich is presented.
Wouldn’t it bewonderful if we really knew our history? No one would be able to tell usanything. We would know the facts about our people, and would be able to passit on and enhance the knowledge of others.
The degradingwords that America places on our people wouldn’t faze us because we would knowthe truth. We’d know for a fact that we came from a rich nation filled withkings and queens. We have to support and enlighten one another, because we areall we have.
My fellowsistahs and brothas, we are a family. A family filled with different shades ofblack beauty. Each of us has unique characteristics, intelligence andcapabilities.
Let’s cometogether and break free of America’s mental chains that cause strain to ourbrains and raise our fists up high to the sky.
