CartheniaClark “Tina”, a former Southern University (’91 & ’92) graduate assistant,will be entering her first season as the assistant coach of the Lady Jaguarsvolleyball team.
The Louisiananative attended and participated in both volleyball and track at Zachary HighSchool. She excelled in bothsports as a four-year letterman and received All-District honors. She alsobroke a school record in volleyball for most assists in a match and wasselected to represent the East at the ALL Star game her senior year.
After highschool she attended Southern and played volleyball from 1985-1988. As the setter, a position in which shewas well respected at, it was regarded that she was one of the topstudent-athletes of that time. Shewas a four-year captain who played an integral part in leading the Lady Jaguarsto their first Southwestern Athletic Conference title in 1998.
The team endedits season with a 31-9 record, the best in the state that year. Clark was also a four-year MostValuable Player and a four-year All-SWAC performer.
As the newassistant coach, she will work closely with the setters as well as implementingpractice sessions, assisting in recruiting, contracts for opposing teams,coordinating preseason workouts, two-a-days and travel.
Clark hopes toassist head coach Nathaniel Denu in putting the Southern University volleyballback in stride.
Clark earnedher bachelor’s degree in 1990 and a master’s degree in 1993 both in the fieldof Mass Communications. She is theproud parent of one son, Mikale.
