ESPN2’s SportsNation is coming to the campus of Southern University Thursday, Jan. 13 and will be televised live at 3 p.m. in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The university is asking for 500 students, alums and fans to come out and be part of the live audience for the production of on the Bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. Southern wants the crowd to be in place by 2:30 p.m.
The Human Jukebox Marching Band and the SU Cheerleaders will be performing to keep the audience excited.
The visit is part of ESPN’s weeklong celebration of the 25th anniversary of the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, ”Content of Character,” starting Tuesday, Jan. 11, and ending on the national holiday, Monday, Jan.17. Other highlights include a two-hour “town hall” discussion about the current image of the black athlete with director Spike Lee and other prominent panelists, special segments on SportsCenter and Outside the Lines.
The show will be produced live on-campus outside on the bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. In case of inclement weather, the show will be moved to the Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Union.
The host of SportsNation and ABC’s Winners Bracket, Michelle Beadle’s humor, wit and expertise have turned her into a rising star in the world of sports media. A former Pro Bowl defensive end, MarcellusWiley hosts Winners Bracket with Beadle and is regular contributor to ESPN’s NFL Live.
Traffic on Harding Boulevard near the Bluff will be rerouted through James Prestage while ESPN is preparing to film the show on the campus. The horseshoe-shaped parking lot by the Bluff will be closed, but the parking lot near the Archives Building will remain open.
Please expect traffic on Harding to be rerouted throughout the day and on Thursday, Jan. 13.
