University officials have confirmed that Haymer is currently still an employee of Southern University and A&M College.
In a Facebook post this morning Haymer wrote, “Dear Southern University Digest, I did not resign.”
Sources close to the situation say last night during the annual band banquet, however, Haymer allegedly stated that he was given the option to either resign or be fired.
Yesterday, the director was locked out of his office.
Members of the Human Jukebox, alumni and supporters attended today’s Board of Supervisors meeting in support of the Band Director.
Senior Music Education major from Baker, La and band member addressed the board saying, “This man serves as our leader. He serves as a father figure to many,” stated Bingham.
“He is the one who represents us and we’re here to fight for him … in the decisions that you make please keep in mind you’re not just affecting one man but you’re affecting a whole nation,” Bingham went on to say.
Details will be provided as they are made available.
