In a raid that took place on April 9, the FBI seized multiple documents from Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s attorney, that many believe to be pertinent information on the Trump/Russia investigation.
The raid came after news broke that Cohen paid his own money to adult film star, Stormy Daniels, on behalf of President Trump. While these reports have been verified, President Trump has vehemently denied any involvement in any money being paid to Daniels.
“Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly,” said Michael Cohen in an interview with Fox News.
According to an article from the New York Times, President Trump appointed Cohen, a homebody from Manhattan, to oversee his legal affairs from his inner circle, as opposed to having an “outsider” initiated into the fold.
Incidentally, Cohen has been pegged by many who are close to the Trump Administration as a Trump loyalist.
“Michael Cohen would lay his life down for Donald Trump,” said Hank Sheinkopf, a veteran New York political strategist who knows both men. “He is the ultimate Trump loyalist.”
While Cohen has been a member of Trump’s inner circle for the past few years, should potentially damaging information to the Trump campaign may likely see Cohen’s days as President Trump’s attorney come to an end.
“He’s going to get fired; it’s more than likely that they’ll get rid of him,” said Devin Raby, a freshman Civil Engineering major from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As far as reasoning as to why a firing would be imminent, Raby simply replied, “Now there is dirt.”
As far as Trump’s personal response to the raiding of Cohen’s office, the POTUS has gone on record as being flustered over the occurrence.
“It’s really a disgraceful situation,” said Trump at a White House event Monday afternoon. The President continued on to say that the entire debacle was “a witch hunt.”
While it is yet to be seen whether the raid on Cohen’s office will be detrimental to the Trump Administration, this event has made President Trump apprehensive of his already predetermined interview with Robert Mueller, former FBI director as he serves as a special counsel member in the Donald Trump investigation.
Having served as FBI Director from 2001 to 2013, Mueller served in the Federal Bureau of Information through three presidencies in what is generally believed to be the world’s most technologically versatile intelligence agency in the world.
With new information being complied from the Cohen raid, it is becoming increasingly likely that the Trump Administration will attempt to distance itself from Cohen, but with Cohen being a valued member of Trump’s inner circle, it seems more likely that Cohen, and Trump by extension, will still have to answer for any condemning information that may be found.
