The crowning jewel of Men’s Federation Week, the Miss Men’s Federation Pageant showcases some of Southern’s most prestigious young ladies as they look to hold the mantle of Miss Men’s Federation. Taking place in the Event Center, this year’s pageant attracted a major crowd as onlookers from around the Bluff awaited to see who would become the next Miss Men’s Fed.
The pageant consisted of the usual rituals, with themed dances, routines, and other performances being undertaken by all of the candidates in order to show off their skills and talents. In most instances, a candidate would perform with a partner or partners in a variety of different themes.
The Queen of Time “Old School Pageant” had a large variety of contestants, with representatives hailing from the sophomore, junior, and senior classes. Some of the night’s contestants consisted of sophomore Kanarie Smith, senior Chalyn Smith, junior Mariyah Simpson, and many more from the various classes here on the Bluff. It was sophomore political science major, Kennedi Manning who ultimately stood victorious and picked up the historic mantle.
“To my pageant sisters, remember that we are all queens, and I will never forget the time that I have shared with y’all,” said newly minted Miss Men’s Federation, Kennedi Manning following her victory via her Instagram. Despite the competitiveness that existed between all contestants, the sisterhood between all of the young ladies is one that is held to a high regard by Manning.
Despite their only being able to be one victor, many candidates noted how their desire to go through the pageant experience was a rewarding process in itself, regardless of the end result. “I said that before I graduated, I wanted to do a pageant, and I did just that. I felt beautiful, I had fun, and I showed out,” said Chalyn Smith, a senior English education major who registered as the 1st runner-up in the Miss Men’s Federation pageant.
2nd runner-up and recipient of the People’s Choice Award in the pageant, Kanarie Smith noted her positive overall experience during the span of the pageant. “Although I didn’t win, I still enjoyed the overall experience. I finally lived out my toddler and tiara dreams,” said Smith.
All in all, the night highlighted some of SUs brightest stars, and while there could only be one victor, all contestants represented themselves and the university at a high level. With a new Miss Men’s Fed now crowned however, the organization as a whole is poised to take things up to another level to top off the Fall semester.
