After a very long and anticipated wait, Southern University announced the Homecoming Concert line up. The featured artist consisted of local artist, and former student Rob49, PlayboyXO, Kali, and Lucky Daye. Headlining the event was the well-known rap trio, Migos. Social media went crazy with the news. It was a lot of mixed feelings leading up to the concert. However, on the night of the concert the crowd went wild.
The concert was held on Thursday, October 21. The mini dome was packed to capacity. There were hardly any seats left open, and the floor area was full of excited students. Daria Carter, marketing major from Baton Rouge, Louisiana spoke on how this was her first homecoming experience, saying that “this week has been very fun, I really can’t complain about anything. I’m really excited to see Lucky Daye.”
Like most concerts, in between artists, the DJ will have different sets of music to keep the crowd hype and set the mood for the next artist. “There was never a dull moment in the crowd.”, said Ataja Williams, sophomore nursing student. Sophomore, psychology major, Rondreka Zenon is not much of a crowd person, and this is what she had to say about her first homecoming concert experience, “I wasn’t sure how everything would turn out, but I can honestly say I definitely enjoyed myself”
Nicole Malone, a junior majoring in social work, hasn’t experienced a homecoming since her freshman year, “Man I’d have to say on a scale of 1-10, it’s a 10! I am so excited to be here back in person, back full functioning.” The Coronavirus Pandemic had put a stop to all on campus events. For many people, the rush and the feel of normalcy was all they needed for a successful homecoming week.
