Every year, The Association for Women Students have a week completely dedicated to their organization. The height of the week is their annual Mister AWS pageant. This year on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 the lovely ladies of AWS presented Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler. Four Contestants, Seniors, Reginald Elloie and Mario Sigur, Sophomore, Jamien Jacobs, and Freshman, Jamarion Tate came together and put on a show for all in attendance.
Throughout the night, the young men had to prove why they should be the 2021-22 Mister AWS. There were categories such as sports, date night, bourbon street fashion, and of course talent. Natchez Stanton, AWS Vice President stated, “I feel like the pageant turned out great! Each Contestant put their best effort forward and gave everyone a great pageant at the end of the night. The cabinet and interns really came together and made everything run so smoothly. I’m super appreciative of them and of course my president Latavia as well. I am very proud of everyone. To the contestants I want to say thank you to each one of them for wanting to participate in our pageant, I really hope they enjoyed themselves at the end of all their hard work, and I am extra proud of the show they put on. ”
The judges took a moment to decide on who the winner would be, with the crowd being just as tense as the contestants. Finally after some time, a decision had been made. Mario Sigur, a Senior majoring in Computer Science, from New Orleans, Louisiana was crowned as the 2021-22 Mister AWS. As Mario plans to take reign in his new position, he left us with a few words, “I am overjoyed by the experience! I had a ton of fun during the pageant. Of course, nerves come naturally, but the key thing I tried to focus on was being relaxed and being confident in what I wanted to portray to the judges. I made three new brothers who I am happy to have participated with. Going forward with my title as Mister AWS I hope to assist the Association for Women Students in the exciting events they will host and really engage with and encourage the female students on their future endeavors in college. I also hope to assist the female student body on any problems they may have on campus. The long nights of rehearsal to the laughs we shared, I truly am grateful for the experience!”
According to Sigur and many others who participated in the pageant, it’s a great way to gain exposure and grow a bond with others who you would not normally meet in a general campus setting.
Niyah LaCour, a freshman family and consumer science major and pageant participant said , “The pageant was amazing. I enjoyed every single part of it! Even though they were competing, we still enjoyed and cheered each other on. It went really well!” Congratulations again to the 2021-22 Mister AWS, Mario Sigur. Be on the lookout as he takes his reign in the AWS.
