Corey Cushingberry’s go-ahead 64-yard punt return for a touchdown during Sunday’s MEAC/SWAC Challenge game against Delaware State helped him net conference and national honors.
Cushingberry earned the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s special teams player of the week honors and also picked up national honors as The Sports Network/Fathead.com special teams player of the week.
The Baton Rouge native’s punt return along the SU sideline with 4:43 remaining gave SU a 30-27 lead over the Hornets, the Jaguars’ first lead of the game. Cushingberry finished the nationally televised game with 175 all-purpose yards, including 71 yards on two punt returns and five kickoff returns for 104 yards.
The Jaguars return to action Saturday in their home opener against Division II member Arkansas-Monticello. Kickoff is 6 p.m. SU officials announced Tuesday parking is free on the SU campus except for parking in reserved areas.
