BOSSIER CITY, La.—Hannah Kador scored 20 points as top-seeded Southern University survived a scare from Arkansas-Pine Bluff to earn a 64-60 victory in the quarterfinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday.
The Jaguars (21-8) had four double-digit scorers and advance to Friday’s semifinals against the winner of Thursday’s Grambling State-Texas Southern matchup.
The Lions (8-22) pulled within 61-60 with 24 seconds left, but were unable to score the upset of the Jaguars, who have won 15 of their past 17 games.
The victory helped Southern complete a season sweep of UAPB.
Senior Shavondra Holmes led the Lady Lions with 12, and Laquisha Slaton and Tashayla Jackson added 10 each.
Holmes fouled out of the game and was handed a technical when she was called for a charge on what could have been a go-ahead three-point play with 2:37 left.
