B.E.E.P sponsoring campus-wide Presidential Inauguration Watch Party
For the vast majority of Southern students who are not traveling to Washington, D.C. to witness President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration the stress about not witnessing the nation’s first black president’s historic moment is a thing of the past.
The Black Executive Exchange Program (B.E.E.P.), Office of Student Programs and the Smith-Brown Memorial Union is sponsoring a watch party to be held on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 9:30 a.m to view the inauguration of the President.
The party will take place in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom, and all students are welcomed to attend the event.
Textbook Voucher Date Changes
Southern University students must be advised that the last date for students to use their textbook vouchers has changed.
The Southern University Bookstore and Textbook Rental of Baton Rouge (located on Scenic Highway) will accept Southern textbook vouchers until Jan. 23.
Students who wish to learn more, or were interested in the textbook voucher program should visit www.subr.edu.
SU To Honor Civil Rights Leader
Southern University students and faculty will celebrate the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 19. Members of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity are sponsoring a candle light vigil at 5:30 p.m., in the courtyard of the Smith-Brown Memorial Union. A program will immediately follow the vigil at 6 p.m. at the Royal Cotillion Ballroom.
The keynote address will be given by Appeals Court Judge John Michael Guidry, an alum of Southern University’s Law Center. Guidry was elected to the First Circuit Court of Appeals in 1997 and was re-elected to a second term in 2008. Prior to serving in the Court of Appeals, Guidry was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives and State Senate.
Students and the general public are invited to attend the event, to honor the life and subsequent legacy of King.
