CONYERS, Ga. — The Southern University softball team opened the 2009 season in the second annual Tiny Laster Black College Tournament.Teams from 13 Historically Black Colleges and Universities representing the Southwestern Athletic Conference and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference participated.
SU fell in its first contest 9-3 to Florida A&M before rebounding to took their next two games defeating South Carolina State 4-3 and Hampton University 11-3.
On Sunday SU took Howard to extra innings but couldn’t stop the Bisons in the bottom half of the eighth inning, losing 8-7. Then, SU defeated Morgan State 11-7.
SU is 3-2 on the year and head coach Nancy Marshall is nine wins away from career victory No. 300.
Southern will travel to Hammond on Friday to participate in the 2009 Southeastern Louisiana University Lion Classic.
