A wrongful termination lawsuit filed by former Grambling State head football coach Melvin Spears Jr. is headed for trial after a judge denied his request for a pretrial ruling that the school breached his contract.
Spears, who was fired in December 2006, claims in his suit that Grambling owes him for the final three years of a five-year contract he signed in February 2005.
The suit says Spears’ contract called for him to receive $156,000 annually.
