SpringFest comedy show gets laughs

Last Thursday, the annual SpringFest comedy show took place in the F.G. Clark Activity Center, hosted by B. Flat and Kool DJ Super Mike of Max 94.1, which featured comedians Karlous Miller, “Big” Sean Larkins and headlined by Steve Brown.
There were about 1,500 students and university affiliates in attendance of the evening’s events, according to Wilbert Jones, assistant director of the university’s purchasing department.
The featured comedians have made numerous appearances on various stages and televisions shows including: B.E.T.’s “Comic View” and “Hell Date,” Def Jam’s “Comedy Hour,” and VH1’s “Who’s Got Jokes.”
For this event, KUTPRO modeling troupe put on a stylish fashion show for the students and university affiliates in attendance.
“I had a good time, I enjoyed everything about the show,” said KUTPRO model, Nivasia Coleman, mass communications major from
Philadelphia. “Thanks to Southern and the SGA for allowing us to put on the show.”
After the show, the comedians allowed anyone who wanted to speak with them to do so in their waiting room.
“Southern has a lot of history,” explained Miller, “it was a great opportunity for me to come out and experience one of the (historically) black universities.”
When asked why the comedians came to the university Brown said, “I go to all HBCU’s; I make that my goal,” he said. “I love coming home and these students work hard, so why not come here and put a smile on their faces.”
Larkins also expressed his reasons for coming to the university,
“Because they pay,” he said. “They have a very big budget here; I would go to the Klu Klux Klan university if they pay me,” he jokingly finished.
Also, Kool DJ Super Mike expressed his reasons for why he gives back so much time to the university.
“This is the school that I originally went to and I love to show love,” he expressed. “I love the energy of the students; its not another school like it in the whole world. These are my people; I do it for my people,” he finished.
