The Southern University Hall of Fame Commission will induct 12 new members into its Sports Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom inside the Smith Brown Memorial Student Union.
The 12 inductees to be enshrined are: Artis Carroll (Football), Kim Davis (Football), Johnny Hardge (Football), David Huddleson (Football), Clifton Johnson (Golf & Tennis Coach), Marion Francis Peron (Football), Phillip Robertson, Jr. (Track & Field), Roy Milton Smith (Football), Joseph C. Williams (Football), Anna Mae Jones (Merited Services), Ronald Scott (Football) and Arthur James Robinson (Trainer).
The cost of the event is $25 per person. Tables of eight can be purchased for $200. Tickets for the event can be purchased through the SUBR Ticket Office. For more information or to buy tickets, call 225.359.9328.
Intramural title games next week
The Southern University Intramural Sports Department will end its student men’s basketball league Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Seymour Gym.
As a special feature, league title sponsor American Collegiate Intramural Sports (ACIS) is sponsoring a giveaway for his-and-her Schwinn Panther Cruiser bicycles.
There will be a drawing during the championship game. All preregistered participants must be present to win a bicycle. Others may enter the drawing on-site.
The faculty/staff division championship game will be Tuesday.
SWAC tennis, golf tourneys on tap
The SWAC’s version of Championship Week begins today as five league titles will be decided the upcoming week.
Alexandria serves as the site of the SWAC Tennis and SWAC Golf Championships. The women’s and men’s tennis championship will be held this weekend at Alexandria City Park and Alexandria Aquatic and Tennis Club, while the women’s and men’s golf championships will be held early next week at Links on the Bayou Golf Course.
The SWAC Championship scene will shift to Hattiesburg, Miss., for the 2009 Softball Championship April 23-26 at Timberton Park.
