A missed opportunity and a sloppy performance at the plate left Southern’s softball team winless at home and head coach Nancy Marshall frustrated in Tuesday’s 6-1 loss to McNeese State.
“We made the required changes but we have to be put ourselves in position to win,” Marshall said.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Victoria Stewart smashed a solo homerun over the left field wall for SU’s only run of the day.
“We have a lot of pride and we want to play hard for ourselves and our managers,” said Stewart.
McNeese added four runs in the last two innings to extend its lead to 6-1.
However, SU (7-12) has enough time to make necessary changes needed to improve the season.
SU returns to Southwestern Athletic Conference play today against rival Grambling State in the first of a three-game series. Game time is set for 3 p.m. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.
