The 2009 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Roundup begins Friday and continues through Sunday at the Timberton Softball Complex in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The Jaguars open play today against Alabama A&M at 4 p.m. before playing twice Saturday — a 10 a.m. tilt against Alabama State and a 3 p.m. game against Jackson State. SU ends the Roundup Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. game against Mississippi Valley State and a 2 p.m. contest against Alcorn State.
Parking and admission is free at the complex.
SU’s Floyd earns weekly SWAC honor
Southern forward Jamie Floyd was named the SWAC’s Newcomer of the Week. This is SU’s fifth overall player or newcomer of the week honor and Floyd’s second award this season.
The 6-1 sophomore from Magee, Miss. registered 16 points, 14 rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots in last Saturday’s 67-56 win over Alcorn State.
Floyd is averaging 6.4 points in 24 games played this season. She has 24 steals, 23 blocks, eight assists and 135 rebounds, averaging 5.6 per game. She has led the Jaguars in two games this year in points and rebounds.
