HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern University women’s soccer team opened up the 2007 season with a 0-4 lost to William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Miss., last Saturday, August 25th.
“Even though we lost I was really impressed with the ladies effort,” said head coach John Knighten. “Divinity (Bradley) played a great game I was really proud of her.”
William Carey did not score its first goal until 59:30 in the second half. True freshman goal keeper, Bradley recorded 15 saves and only allowed four goals in her first college action. Junior Charmaine Jones led the team in shots with two.
The Lady Jaguars will welcome the University of Louisiana at Monroe to A. W. Mumford Stadium today, Friday, August 31st. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and the event is free and open to the public.
Two earn All-SWAC preseason honors

Two players from the Southern University soccer team was named to the 2007 preseason All-Southwestern Athletic Conference team.
Juniors and team captains Jamika Pugh and Almarie Soto-Ortiz were named. This is Soto-Ortiz’s second post-season honor in her career as she received second-team honors at the end of last season. This is Pugh’s first preseason honor.
“I am really proud of the ladies and the job they have done with us,” said Knighten.
The Lady Jaguars were also picked to finish second in the Western Division for 2007. Last season they finished third and fell to Mississippi Valley in the first round of the SWAC Soccer Tournament.
