Jaguar Nation, it’s time again! Homecoming is here, and our events, as always, will be talked about well into the next semester. One of the most talked about and anticipated event during homecoming is the Greek Show.
Terral Jackson, director of the student union and chairman of the Greek Show, stated that the Greek Show has been going on for easily for over 40 years.
It will be held on October, Friday 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the F.G. Clark Activity Center on the Southern University campus.
Tickets are $10 and will go on sale Monday, September 24; tickets are available at the Southern University Athletic Ticket Office located on Scenic Highway.
“Security will be strictly enforced and preparations have been made to regulate a crowd of about 3,000,” said Jackson.
He also comments that students should realize that alumni and fans will be parked all across the campus, he urges students to respect alumni and fans and get a parking space early.
“I recognize that students will make noise and get excited and that’s fine, but I just want students to relax and have a good time,” Jackson says.
The members participating are currently active and non-suspended Pan-Hellenic members only.
“There are, as of now, eight groups who can perform and of those eight groups only seven will be performing,” said Jackson. “Unfortunately Omega Psi Phi will not be performing and at this point and time that is the only Greek organization that I know of that is not performing.”
Jackson estimates the length of the Greek show is one hour and 30 minutes, but it will be no longer than 2 hours. He also stated that in addition to the Greek Show there will be other special attractions, Kappa Kappa Phi, the band fraternity and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia will also be performing but both groups are will perform on a non-competitive basis.
“There is only one fraternity winner and one sorority winner that will represent Southern University at the Bayou Classic,” said Jackson. “Of course here on campus there are first, second, and third place winners, all of those winners will receive some type of monetary reward. Participants in The Bayou Classic, first place winners will receive $3,000, second place winners will receive $2,000, and third place winners will receive $1,000.”
