I love doing scenarios…
Imagine one day you a walking on an empty street, and a man approaches you, claiming to be the apostle Paul. He tells you he has a divine revelation for you, and he can prove he is who he says he is. As is the norm, most people want miracles, so he provides any miracle you want to see: walking on water, healing, talking animals, etc. He then tells you that some things in the Bible are wrong and untrue, minor things, but falsehoods nonetheless. He wants nothing of you, just to inform you of the Biblical mistakes and spread the word as a prophet. He walks away leaving you with a dilemma.
What do you do?
When I was first posed with this, I thought as an intellectual. I figured I’d pray about it, think over the things told to me, and see what my morals could apply to them. I’m well familiar with the fact that the devil can do miracles, and that he is the king of deception. But I also know that the Bible is man-made, and has potential flaws. I know that the rumors of withheld information by the church, as well as the many interpretations of the Bible can sometimes make things oblique. I also know that in many languages words don’t mean the same, so the numerous translations could have mixed things up. I was already to say I believe…
…but the revelation was told to me…
This scenario is actually in the Bible. In II Corinthians 11, it warns us that Satan and demons can transform into false prophets, present “miracles”, and spread lies. So miracles can’t too much be believed in.
But Jesus used miracles to show people who He was, so clearly there needs to be more to proving one’s divinity. So what else can be done? How else can you tell if a man speaking before you is a prophet or a false prophet?
The answer to this dilemma is actually in the beginning.
The man approaching you claimed to be presenting you with flaws, and he was right, only the flaws were within him. II Timothy tells us all scripture, meaning the Bible, is given by inspiration of God. If anyone says anything against the Bible, they are automatically wrong. As Christians we should trust the Bible above all things even though we may think the bible is in error. The minute a being approaches you speaking against the Bible, even after performing miracles, you are obligated to reject them.
God would not leave anything to guide us that He would allow to be misdirecting, so have faith in His book
The second flaw came when the reincarnation said…he was a reincarnation. Ecclesiastics nine tells us that the dead know nothing, nor are they granted any rewards. Thus when we die, we cannot come back to life as the living. Angels can deliver messages, but not the dead.
This puts a lot into perspective about the company we keep, and the conduct we carry. Those claiming to be reincarnates, clearly have no idea of the concept of the afterlife. Those intellectuals and “saints” that claim to know more than the Bible, have no idea on the sanctity of the rock of faith. And all doubts in your mind, the Bible can answer for you.
Take this lesson and apply it to your everyday living. Or…disregard it as spam.
