For the next two weeks the Student Government Association presidential authority will be vested in SGA Vice President Channing Blake according to an Executive Authorization released by the Executive Branch of the Student Government Association.
According to a document released on Friday, August 24, 2007, “…the Vice- President shall during, and in respect of, the period while he is so acting as, or discharging the functions of the president, have all the powers of the President and be entitled to such allowances and privileges as are specified by the precedent, laws, Constitution, and Bylaws of the Student Government Association.”
This recent two-week step down of the SGA President is indicative that no man is immune to personal problems; and shows that he knows how to truly lead although he realizes the true entirety of his presidential responsibility cannot be waived.
“The Vice-President will discharge the offices of the President, although I realize that there are certain duties that only the SGA President can exercise, and I will continue to perform those duties to the best of my ability,” said Ash about taking time to cope with a personal family issue.
Blake, now the Acting SGA President said, “I ran to be SGA Vice-President, but I realize that situations arise, and there is a job to be done in the absence of the Student Government Association President.”
“I will work to the best of my ability to represent the student body to represent the student body with the help of my peers,” said Blake.
The authorization shall be valid until midnight on the morning of Saturday, September 8, 2007, according to the authorization. This means that Ash should be fulfilling and returning to his duties in two weeks.
