Water pipe repairs in front of Fisher Hall that commenced in August have yet to be completed.
“They need to do something about that,” said Candice Cavalier, a freshman animal science major from Baton Rouge.
Students have been forced to pass through the grass instead of walking on the sidewalk, because the area that needs water line repair has become an obstacle.
Barricades have been set up to block the area where concrete has been removed. Workers dug a hole in the ground earlier in the semester, and it is now filled with water.
“I know very little,” said Dr. Dewitt Jones, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Family and Consumer Sciences, when asked about his knowledge of the cause of what seems to be a repair site in front of Fisher Hall.
Jones did mention that it seems as if there is a break in the water line where the hole has been dug.
However, there is just cause for the delay in fixing the problem.
“In order to isolate the problem, we would have to shutdown half or all of the water system on campus,” said Eli Guillory III, Director of Physical Plants.
He also mentioned that the underground infrastructure is aged.
According to Guillory, some of the pipes in the area have been used since the 1940s and some have been used since the 1920s.
Guillory mentioned that the problem should be fixed during the Thanksgiving break, because many people will not be on campus.
“We know we can solve our problems, but we don’t want students to be inconvenienced,” added Guillory.
