The Southern University women’s volleyball team was defeated by Grambling State and Texas Southern this week by the identical scores of 3-1.
For the season the Jaguars have an overall record of 5-17 and are 2-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The Jaguars will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the Seymour Gym on the SU campus at 7:30 p.m. Volleyball game are free and open to the general public. Then SU will host the 23rd Annual Southern Invitational, all day on Oct. 26-27.
SU started the season by going 6-1 with wins over Hampton, South Carolina State, Alcorn State and UAPB. The Jaguars are currently on a 11 match-losing streak.
Against TSU at Seymour Gym, the Jaguars were defeated 30-24, 21-30, 30-19 and 30-21. SU was lead by Ena Payne with 10 kills and two blocks while Kamyle Lowndes added nine kills.
Against Grambling, at home, SU was led by sophomore Candace Southall. The Baytown, Texas native finished the game with 10 kills, six digs and two blocks. Freshman Lourena Beathley ended the game with 13 digs.
