Freshmen at LSU should be forced to live on campus beginning in the fall of 2009, a committee of the school’s governing board voted on Thursday.
Chancellor Sean O’Keefe, a supporter of the requirement, said it will help improve grade point averages and graduation rates at the school.
Student body president Cassie Alsfeld spoke against the plan. Alsfeld, who has a seat on the LSU Board of Supervisors academic affairs committee, told the other members there isn’t parking for students on campus. She said she had concerns about poor lighting and safety for female students, plus possible health risks posed by mold in some dorms’ air conditioning systems.
The plan was expected to be approved today by the full LSU Board of Supervisors.
