Greetings my fellow Jaguars,
Just as the winds of the sky, another wonderful week has passed us by here on the yard, and as your president, it is my privilege to report the past successes and future goals of the Student Government Association to you.
First, as October is here, the Student Government has decided to go above and beyond what the average administration typically does for Halloween! For everyone will be unable to make it to this year’s 13th Gate’s Haunted House, your Student Government has decided to bring the Haunted House to you! This year, the Student Government Association, in conjunction with the Speech and Theatre Department, AWS & Men’s Federation, and the Senior Class, “The Death Below,” a haunted house extravaganza in the basement of T.T. Allain, will be hosted! This fright-filled event will be produced through the good graces of the Computer Science Department and will be held on Friday, October 26, 2007 from 8pm-12pm and on Saturday, October 27, 2007 from 7pm-11pm.
Secondly, as we celebrated our love for our great university two weeks ago during Homecoming week, the Student Government created new traditions and showed our “Southern Hospitality” to our colleague institutions across the state. We renewed the tradition of “JagWars” on our campus, which are competitive events between the undergraduate classes and student organizations, which were designed to inspire school spirit and ultimately a chance for the winning team to earn a Bayou Classic prize package. We also welcomed students from other colleges in Louisiana to participate in our festivities by opening our Homecoming Comedy Show and Concert to them. It warms my heart as a student leader to proudly report that the execution of this year’s Homecoming was a great success, one that occurred with absolutely no problems or conflicts. Of course, I alone cannot take the credit for these outstanding accomplishments and must give credit where credit is due.
To the Student Government H.Y.P.E. (Helping You Promote Events) team of volunteers, your selfless giving of your time and effort are truly appreciated. Your service to the university speaks for itself. YOU are truly the backbone of the Student Government and I would like to take the time to express my sincere gratitude to you.
To my executive cabinet, who I love dearly, I sincerely appreciate your dedication and commitment to this organization and to the successful outcome of the activities during Homecoming week. You persevered through the challenges of the week and overcame them without fail, and for this, I am forever indebted to you.
To our Chancellor, Mrs. Ambrose, thank you for believing in the Student Government. Your graciousness in allowing us the opportunity to open our events to other campuses proved that our Jaguar Pride extends far past Harding Boulevard.
Lastly, to the heart of Jaguar Nation, the student body, I would like to express to you that, because of your positive attitude and enduring patience during Homecoming week, you have shown me that the Jaguar spirit still runs through the veins of each of us.
Jaguars, as our institution continues to progress, I hope and pray your that homecoming spirits never depart from you. Although the major events of the semester have since passed, know that your government has not stopped working for you. Preparations are still being made and plans are still being executed in order to improve our student body. My fellow students, let us continue to endeavor in Jaguar Pride through sincerity, unity, and dedication, together.
Still moving in the right direction,
Carey L. H. Ash, President
