Associate professor of music Criag Heinzen proformed classical Baroque music during his performance last Tuesday afternoon in the Debose Recital Hall.
“I choose to use Baroque style because of the new organ the department acquired last year,” said Heinzen.
Accompanying Heinzen during the performance was Louisiana State University graduate student and volunteer for the Southern University Music Department Brent Rhodes who played on the estimated $80 thousand dollar organ acquired last year.
“It’s good to see another school have an organ as good as this,” said Rhodes. “It is a great asset for Southern.
For the last piece of the concert titled “Canzon Septimi Toni No.2” by Giovanni Gabrieli , accompanying Heizen were three other brass players including Associate Professor of the music department Frank Chemay and sophomore music education major from Baton Rouge David Harris.
“The performance went good, it feels good playing in front of people though I do it often,” said Harris.
Students like senior music education major from Opelousas Brandon Levier enjoyed the performance.
“Outstanding performance by Heinzen,” said Levier. “He is one of the best trumpet players I know.”
