The Southern University men and women’s tennis teams have much to accomplish next year after having a accumulative 15 wins – 20 losses in the 2006 – 2007 season according to statistics from website College Tennis Online.
According to head coach for both tennis teams Jeffrey Conyers, the teams biggest strength for next season will be team veterans like sophomore accounting major from Lafayette Megan Wiltz representing the women’s team and junior economics major from Gaborno, Batsowana Bino Rasedisa representing the men’s team.
Known for her base line playing style Wiltz who made the 2007 SWAC Women’s All – Tournament Team is excited for the upcoming season.
“My game has improved tremendously over the months by improving on my strengths and weaknesses,” said Wiltz.
Though the women’s team had a decent season, they placed third in the annual HBCU National Tennis Championship in Atlanta last Sept., which should give them momentum going into next year according to Conyers.
On the other hand, according to Rasedisa who made the 2007 SWAC Men’s All- Tournament Team he is optimistic for next season due to experience of play the team has.
” The competition in SWAC is coming of age compared to previous years meaning every team is our main competition,” said Rasedisa. ” The team and coach Conyers are hungry”.
According to Conyers who has been coaching both teams since 2002 said keeping the team focused will be their key to success.
“Staying focused, not letting social aspects get in the way and knowing what they’re after is what the team will have to do to succeed,” said Conyers.
