He was No. 29 and he is an undeniable leader on the Tiger defense. One of the most experienced players on the G-Men football team, DeMichael Dizer said his family keeps him going.
“My motivation is my family,” Dizer said. “My parents were not able to do a lot when they were younger because of their lifestyles. So with that in mind, I go out and do my job on Saturdays for them.”
Born on Feb. 23, 1985, in Sterlington, the 6-1, 185 pound senior started playing football in the fifth grade.
“Growing up, I grew up by myself,” Dizer said. “I was the only boy and the first son, so I played a lot of sports. I just fell in love with football.”
While in high school, Dizer was the first person to sign with a major school and at the age of 16 he knew he had to make it on his own.
“My father always told me to stay in school,” Dizer said. “A lot of guys before me played football but did not make it. But my father showed me how to be a man and laid the groundwork for me.
“Now that I have a little brother that is watching me, I have to be an example for him.”
Knowing that you are a role model is hard for some individuals, but Dizer looks forward to the task and feels very comfortable in that particular role.
“It makes you realize that every decision you make someone else is watching,” he said. “I have to monitor myself to make sure that every decision I make is a good one because I know that he is always watching.
Outside of football, Dizer is majoring in therapeutic recreation and, although making it to the NFL is a goal, if that does not work for him, he wants to be a physical therapist.
“I would love to work with athletes,” Dizer said. “I love sports, and I want a career surrounding sports.”
Dizer entered this season with 103 tackles, three sacks and four interceptions.
