Black people have been arguing for years about reparations for slavery and a lot have been sternly inflexible about getting some form of reimbursement for what their forefathers did.
It is as if we believe that our ancestors would have had been lesser of a slave if they were on salary for what they did out in the field.
But what some of us don’t understand is as we continue to shout, “Reparations” we are still enslaved. We may not have visible chains on us that show signs of strain, but the chains are there.
In this present society money is assumed to be the key to happiness. However, it is terrible how unfortunately people are injudicious. The platitude repeatedly drawn to wealth and resentment that conveys that money mends loneliness and heartache has persuaded the universal community to believe that with money comes compassion and pardon but once the money is spent the understanding is not a factor.
For as long as a person continues to tie money and materialistic substances into being the key to personal fulfillment in life, he or she will forever be bound to the consumerism of not necessarily the “white world” but the world in general.
If black people were given reparations today it will not considerably alter the humanity of the black community. Because after all of the money disappears most blacks who rely on sympathy will not be able to promote their essential need for pity in their general distress.
After reparations are given more than likely they will become a recollection of the times of yore. And if like a lot of the events in history, the memories of slavery that are forgotten will eventually reiterate.
People who put in hard work, sweat and tears into making a living, will become furious towards the government. Because their hard earned money will be turned into tax dollars, which will be turned into reparation money, eventually causing chaos within the United States.
I believe today’s black society will not be capable to clutch the full purpose of why the money is being given to them. Since fashionable things seem to rule the world nowadays, the money will probably be spent on, brand name clothes, cars, houses, etc. frivolous possessions of such.
I assume rather than investing the money into education, black AIDS awareness, crime and other things that harm the black community, most of the money will be spent frivolous possessions of such.
Nonetheless, handing out reparations will not compensate for the many years that our forefathers labored.
In today’s society, I believe it will only give a lot black people another reason of why we shouldn’t get up off of our butts and work on building a community for ourselves.
Reparations should have been given to those blacks that actually earned it, since money is lesser to the past black strain. However, because it was not given when it was due the black people of today should not demand that it being given unto them, because the only thing that we’ve done is shout, “Reparations.”
Instead we should look back on the struggle of our forefathers, and use that as a payment unto ourselves, and motivator to push us towards having our own.
