According to recent reports, the FBI has announced the re-opening of more than a dozen cold cases of crimes committed against African-Americans during the Civil Rights Era. Although we applaud them on their efforts, we feel as if this is just another attempt by federal government officials to sleep a little easier at night.
Why is it every time Whites want to feel better about injustices this country has committed against African-Americans they feel the need to dig up the past or issue statements of apology for enslaving our people?
The past is just that…the past! It is at rest and dead.
Yes, there are things we can still learn from our tortured beginnings in this country, but we feel it’s time Whites stop trying to apologize for the crimes of their ancestors and begin dealing with the racial injustices that still plague our society today.
We can’t speak for everyone, but to us, this latest attempt by the FBI to finally solve cases they probably always knew the answers to seems more like another round of broken promises Whites are hoping will keep African-American advocates like Rev. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton busy while they continue to ostracized our people in other ways.
If the FBI wants something more productive to do with their time, how about dedicating their manpower to ridding our neighborhoods of drugs and gang violence instead of turning a blind eye on the black-on-black violence that has claimed the lives of some many African-Americans.
Why doesn’t the federal government release statements of apology for things like racial profiling and the under funding of Historically Black Colleges and Universities?
If they want blacks to feel as if they are truly sorry, why don’t they re-write American history to reflect the true BLACK history this country was founded on?
With that being said, we wish the FBI luck in their investigations, but here’s a clue to solving most of those murders…flip through the scrapbooks of your ancestors to find the criminals who served our people injustice in the 60s and 70s.
Stop apologizing to us for slavery! We don’t need your sympathy. And believe us, those two little words will never be enough to make things right with us. Accept the fact that your ancestors were immoral bigots, we have! Once you do that, maybe you’ll be able to step out of the past and join the present with us and begin dealing with the social injustices you’ve help perpetuate today.
