Last season’s success for Southern’s baseball team has earned them the preseason pick as 2006 Black College National Baseball Champions, as said on www.blackcollegebaseball.com. The Jaguars finished 29-18 last season en route to their SWAC Championship and NCAA Regional tournament appearance under head coach Roger Cador.
“Anytime you have to repeat, it is always tough,” Cador said. “The good thing is that we have been there a lot. So it’s almost expected, unfairly expected that we should win.”
The Jaguars will begin their season on Feb. 10 when they host the University of Southern Arkansas in a two-day series starting at 1 p.m. in the newly renovated Lee-Hines Baseball Stadium.
“These kids come to Southern to have their championship and to be a part of a wonderful tradition that has been going on for over 50 years or so,” Cador said.
