As of Wednesday, Sept. 13, the elections for the remaining 2006-2007 Student Government Association positions were finally filled after fall elections, which began on August 27.
For the title of Freshman Class President, Cleophus Bankston, Jr., was elected by 167 votes, winning the majority of his class’ approval to secure a spot as its leader for the school term.
Charisse T. Gibson won the title of Miss Freshmen with 104 votes over Mercy A. Ukpolo’s 90 votes in the runoff election on Wednesday.
The Student Senate’s roster increased by five, after Monday’s general election, which placed freshmen Gabrielle Ayers, Adrienne Cesar, Elisa Lassiter, Lindsay M. Thomas and Lorenzo Turner into the student governing body.
Benjamin E. Terry, who received 134 votes, was elected as the new president for Southern University’s Men’s Federation, narrowly securing the title from competitor Jerry W. Jones, who received 127, by seven votes.
Rounding out the election was Jacques M. Gilbert, who won the Men’s Federation Vice President seat with 92 votes over George L. Lucas who had 54 total votes.
